Laurie Itkin has more than two decades of experience advising elected officials and managing government and public affairs for corporations. She specializes in developing federal and state government and public affairs strategies for foreign and domestic companies competing in regulated markets. Ms. Itkin is rare among government affairs professionals as she has successfully developed and executed federal and multi-state strategies to address both legislative and regulatory challenges.

  

Before launching her own consulting firm, Ms. Itkin served as VP, Government & Public Affairs for Betfair’s North American operations. Betfair, a global Internet gaming company best known for its “betting exchange,” secured passage of unprecedented legislation in both California and New Jersey to legalize exchange wagering on horseracing.

 

Prior to joining Betfair, Ms. Itkin spent ten years as Director of Government Affairs for Leap Wireless and its subsidiary, Cricket Communications. There she created the government affairs department for a start-up wireless telecommunications company and grew it to support the needs of a NASDAQ-100 company with over 4M customers and $2B in revenue. In the late 90’s, she managed multi-state regions as a member of Sprint’s legislative affairs team. Prior to joining the private sector, Ms. Itkin served as the first Telecommunications Policy Advisor to Oregon’s Governor and as a policy specialist for the National Conference of State Legislatures.

 

Ms. Itkin is a frequent speaker at conferences and has been quoted as an industry expert in a variety of publications including: Business Week, USA Today, Reuters, Dow Jones, Congress Daily, Communications Daily, Telecommunications Reports, Gambling Compliance, and Global Gaming Business. She has testified before a U.S. Senate Judiciary Subcommittee as well as legislative committees and regulatory agencies in numerous states.
